MATCH POINTS

Monica Niculescu is a former champion in Luxembourg, having lifted the title in 2016, when she defeated Petra Kvitova, 6-4, 6-0 in the final.

She beat compatriot Elena-Gabriel Ruse in their only previous professional meeting, which was in a 125K event in Limoges back in 2016.

Viktoria Kuzmova is coming off the back of a run to the quarterfinals in Linz, where she was beaten by Andrea Petkovic in straight sets. She has made back-to-back runs to that stage of tournaments, having reached the quarters in Tashkent, too.

Katie Volynets is making her debut appearance at a WTA Tour International tournament. She was, however, beaten by Bianca Andreescu at the 2019 US Open.

Tatjana Maria and Shelby Rogers have only played a couple of times before, and only one of these was on the WTA Tour. Rogers won that encounter, 6-4, 6-2 in Quebec back in 2014.

Wildcard Mandy Minella will be making her 16th appearance at the tournament. She is looking for her first main draw victory.

Kristyna Pliskova has won her last four first-round matches on the WTA Tour dating back to a tight loss to Caroline Garcia in Jurmala.
