Former World No.1 Victoria Azarenka has taken to social media to announce her return from maternity leave in this year's grass season.

Victoria Azarenka has released a statement on social media to announce that she will bring forward the date of her return from maternity leave to this year's grass season.

The former WTA World No.1 and two-time Wimbledon semifinalist gave birth to son Leo in January; in April, she announced that she would return to professional tennis in Stanford, at the start of August.

However, Azarenka wrote today: "My training has been progressing well and I feel ready to start competing...plus Leo kinda said he wants to see London and Wimbledon."

Her schedule, she continued, is to be finalized in the coming few days, and will include a grass warm-up tournament.

Azarenka's last match on grass was her 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 Wimbledon quarterfinal loss to Serena Williams in 2015, deemed by many as one of the best contests of that year.
