MATCH POINTS

WTA World No.1 Naomi Osaka will play her first grass court match since losing to Angelique Kerber in the third round of Wimbledon last July.

She has a 1-1 career head-to-head record with Maria Sakkari, who took the honors when the pair met last, in Cincinnati 2018. Both their previous encounters have been on hard courts.

Julia Goerges was made to work hard for a three-set victory over Danaya Yastremska in their only previous match. That 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory came in New Haven.

Venus Williams is appearing at the Nature Valley Classic for the first time. She is the only previous Wimbledon champion in the field.

Donna Vekic and French Open champion Ashleigh Barty are the only two players in action on Tuesday to get to the final of this tournament previously. Both were runners-up, Vekic in 2013 and Barty in 2017.

The WTA World No.2 has never previously met the Croat in a Tour-level match.

Jelena Ostapenko is seeking to put a poor claycourt stint behind her. She finished with a 3-6 losing record on the dirt this year.

Of Iga Swiatek's last 23 sets played in singles competition, 18 have ended 6-0 or 6-3. In her four French Open matches, there was a bagel set either for or against her.

Lauren Davis won her only previous match against Wang Qiang, on the hard courts of Doha in 2017 qualifying.
