Ana Bogdan and No.1 seed Anastasija Sevastova are meeting for the first time. This tie is the only quarterfinal match not to have been played before.

Alexandra Dulgheru won the only previous time she played Julia Goerges, prevailing in straight sets in Kuala Lumpur two years ago.

Pauline Parmentier won her first two meetings with Irina-Camelia Begu, both on clay and both in 2011, before Begu levelled up, triumphing in Dallas later that year and again in New Haven in 2014.

Carla Suárez Navarro holds a 3-2 winning record over Tatjana Maria, although both defeats came on clay, in 2006 and 2009. This is the pair's first meeting in seven years.

Ekaterina Alexandrova and Pauline Parmentier have both been taken to three sets in both their matches this week.

This is the first edition of the Bucharest Open to have had three Romanians reach the last eight.
