NINGBO, China - Canadian No.2 Sharon Fichman was among the first round winners at the Yinzhou Bank International Women's Tennis Open on Monday.

Fichman was up a set and 4-3 on Kateryna Kozlova before the Ukrainian won three straight games to even the match. But Fichman quickly regained the momentum by winning the first 10 points and the first three games of the third set, going on to a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 triumph.

Next up for Fichman is Ekaterina Bychkova, who was up a break in the third set on No.8 seed Misaki Doi when the Japanese retired due to GI illness.

Also moving on was China's Wang Yafan, who down 6-4, 3-3 against Melinda Czink reeled off eight straight games en route to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory. Wang had the best outing of her career in reaching the semifinals of Guangzhou last month, highlighted by her first Top 20 win over Samantha Stosur in the first round.

Fellow Chinese Liu Chang had the most lopsided win of the day over Misa Eguchi, 6-0, 6-3.

Finally, Poland's Paula Kania broke serve five times while saving seven of eight break points on her own serve in her 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Eri Hozumi.

Among those in action Tuesday are No.1 seed Luksika Kumkhum, No.2 seed Zheng Saisai and former World No.11 and five-time WTA titlist Shahar Peer.

The Yinzhou Bank International Women's Tennis Open is one of three WTA 125K Series events in China, along with Nanchang and Suzhou.
