Garbiñe Muguruza has won all four previous meetings with Timea Babos - the Spaniard triumphant over three sets in a 50k event in Mestre in 2011 as well as in Doha, Stuttgart and Cincinnati in 2016, all in straight sets.

As well as previously winning the singles tournament in Monterrey in 2012, Timea Babos has also twice made the final of the doubles at the venue. The Hungarian won with Kimiko Date-Krumm against Eva Birnerova and Tamarine Tanasugarn five years ago, before losing with Belarusian Olga Govortsova to Darija Jurak and Megan Moulton-Levy in straight sets the following year.

Garbiñe Muguruza is the first Spaniard to make the final of the Monterrey singles, although compatriots Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja did win the doubles title in 2016.

Timea Babos dropped two sets en route to the 2012 title, beating two seeds - Sorana Cirstea and Sara Errani - along the way. Babos has also dropped two sets and beaten two seeds on her way to this year's final.

Garbiñe Muguruza is yet to drop a set in this year's tournament, losing just 15 games.
