SYDNEY, Australia - Daria Gavrilova overcame the rain and a stubborn Donna Vekic to reach the second round of the Apia International Sydney on Monday night.

So keen was the Australian to get things back underway when the rain abated midway through the second set, she even helped the ball kids towel down the court.

On the resumption, Gavrilova promptly dropped serve before steadying the ship to close out a 6-1, 7-6(1) victory.
