Eight Chinese players started in the main draw this week, seven of whom were in the bottom half, but No.3 seed Wang Qiang is the only home representative remaining. The 26-year-old will be playing her fourth career semifinal, and third of 2018 following Nanchang - where she lifted her maiden trophy - and Hiroshima last week.

Andrea Petkovic has reached her second semifinal of the year following Washington in July, and will be aiming for her 12th career final - and first since Antwerp 2015 - against Wang Qiang in their first meeting.
