The closing stretch of the 2016 season has seen Kvitova make a welcome return to form, and once into her stride against Vinci there was no stopping her, running out a 6-1, 6-2 winner after just 47 minutes.
"I'm very proud that I qualified here first of all! It's my first match here, so you're never sure what's going to happen. But the court is great, it really suits my game, and I'm really happy with my form today," Kvitova said during her on-court interview.
Kvitova secured her place in Zhuhai thanks to a run of 19 wins in her past 24 matches. The highlight of this was a imperious victory in Wuhan, where she defeated Angelique Kerber, Johanna Konta, Simona Halep and Dominika Cibulkova, and she marked her return to Chinese soil with another devastating performance.

Vinci had won three of her six previous meetings against Kvitova, but never looked in danger of adding to this tally. The Czech established her dominance early on, leaving Vinci stranded behind the baseline amidst a baseline barrage that took her through the opening set in 20 minutes.
The second set was barely more competitive. Kvitova swatted away a drive volley to capture an early break and with her own delivery remaining imperious - she conceded only seven points on serve all match - she was soon cantering across the finish line.
On Friday, Kvitova will face Barbora Strycova in the final match in the Peony Group, with the winner advancing to the semifinals.
