MATCH POINTS

Donna Vekic has already defeated Kristina Mladenovic twice in 2019. First, she won on the hard courts of the Australian Open, then she was victorious on the grass of Nottingham.

Overall, Mladenovic and Vekic are tied 2-2 in their career matches, though that includes a 2014 qualifier for Madrid, which went in the Frenchwoman’s favor.

This will be the first time Kiki Bertens has faced Alison Van Uytvanck on the WTA Tour. They have actually played previously, but it was an ITF match back in 2011 that the Belgian took victory in as her Dutch opponent was forced to withdraw trailing 4-1 in the decider.

Van Uytvanck was a semifinalist in Linz last year but succumbed to eventual champion Camila Giorgi.

Alizé Cornet came out on top, 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 in her only previous experience of playing Jelena Ostapenko.

Anastasia Pavlyuchekova and Viktoria Kuzmova played in this tournament a year ago, with the Russian winning, 7-5, 7-5. Kuzmova since got her revenge, with a 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-5 win in Miami.

Pavlyuchekova is a previous winner of this tournament, having defeated Anna-Lena Friedsam, 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the 2015 event.
