MALLORCA, Spain - Last year’s Rome finalist Madison Keys is already preparing for her return to the Eternal City, and has traded the metropolitan Madrid for the sunny Mediterranean.
After bowing out of the Mutua Madrid Open earlier in the week, Keys has been putting in the long hours at the Rafa Nadal Academy in the 14-time Grand Slam champion’s hometown of Manacor, Mallorca.
“I’ve been training at the Rafa Nadal Academy for the last three days, and it’s been amazing,” Keys said in a video message on Wednesday. “I’m really happy that I’ve been able to come here before Rome.”
With nine of his 14 Grand Slam titles coming at the French Open, the academy’s namesake Rafael Nadal is widely regarded as one of the greatest clay court players in tennis history – so Keys is sure to be one to watch when she returns to Rome.
