Sania Mirza has revealed that she will be off court for at least another couple of months following an injury to her right knee.
The problem had previously forced her to miss last month's Australian Open, and now the additional rehab period will keep her out of action for another two months.
“(It will take) a couple of more months. I don’t want to get into technicalities of it but even if there was a surgery there is no guarantee that it is going to get better. It’s basically pain that I need to manage,” Mirza said.
“It got out of hand so I had to take time off. I could not take pain killers anymore. It is getting better. It’s frustrating because you have to rest and do rehab.”
Mirza made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the No.1 ranking in doubles on April 13, 2015, and finished 2015 and 2016 as world doubles No.1.
