MELBOURNE, Australia - No.4 seeds Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova overcame a second-set wobble against Sam Stosur and Zhang Shuai to reach the third round of the Australian Open.

Having eased through the first set, Mirza and Strycova found themselves trailing 3-0 in the second before rallying to complete a 6-1, 6-4 victory. In the last 16 they will face the unseeded Japanese partnership of Eri Hozumi and Miyu Kato.

Mirza won the title 12 months ago alongside Martina Hingis, defeating Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka in the final. This time around Hlavackova is also playing with a new partner, Peng Shuai, with whom she posted a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over Karin Knapp and Mandy Minella.

Also among the first wave of teams to advance were 2014 finalists and No.3 seeds Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, who eased past former champion Liezel Huber and her new partner Maria Sanchez, 6-3, 6-1.

No.8 seeds Vania King and Yaroslava Shvedova had few problems overcoming Danka Kovinic and Laura Siegemund, 6-1, 6-4, while Mirjana Lucic-Baroni followed up her singles upset of Agnieszka Radwanska by teaming up with Andrea Petkovic to defeat Louisa Chirico and Elise Mertens.
