MATCH POINTS

Sloane Stephens and Camila Giorgi will meet for the fifth time, with the series squared at 2-2 currently. The Italian has a 2-1 edge on hard courts.

No.3 seed Stephens won the last time they played, coming out on top, 4-6, 6-1, 8-6 in a marathon fourth-round encounter at Roland Garros in 2018.

Varvara Flink is aiming to become the fourth qualifier to reach the quarterfinals of the event since it became a Premier tournament in 2014. Alison Riske, Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Magda Linette are the players to have achieved this.

Yulia Putintseva holds a 1-0 career head-to-head record against the WTA World No.149, having beaten her in Washington in 2016.

Misaki Doi is seeking to be just the second Japanese player into the quarterfinals since Ai Sugiyama in 2007. Naomi Osaka, who has already reached the last eight, is the other.

She has twice lost to Donna Vekic in 2019, on the hard courts of Acapulco and San Jose. She did push the WTA World No.21 to a deciding set in California, however.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will face Kiki Bertens for the fourth time in the space of 12 months. She claimed victories in Wuhan and at the Australian Open, but lost their last meeting in St Petersburg.

Bertens holds a 4-2 advantage in the series overall, but it is 2-2 on hard courts.
