Simona Halep (ROU) [1] v Elina Svitolina (UKR) [4]

Play starts at 11.30am
Ashleigh Barty (AUS) / Demi Schuurs (NED) [8] v Andrea Sestini Hlavackova (CZE) / Barbora Strycova (CZE) [2]

Both Elina Svitolina and Simona Halep are playing in their second Rome final - in fact the pair are meeting in the final for the second straight year, the Ukranian having prevailed last year in three sets. That meeting was the first of four matches between the pair in 2017, Halep avenging the defeat with victory at Roland Garros before Svitolina won in both Toronto and at the BNP Paribas WTA Finals. Halep won their only match prior to last year, in straight sets in Sofia in 2013.

Simona Halep is playing in her third final of 2018, having previously lost at the Australian Open and won at Shenzhen. She would be the first Romanian to win the singles title in Rome.

Elina Svitolina hopes to make the third title defense of her career, having retained the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships earlier this year as well as her Baku title in 2013. She has also won a title in Brisbane this year.

Simona Halep has already secured the No.1 ranking and seeding for the French Open, which starts next Sunday.

Elina Svitolina and Simona Halep have both dropped just one set en route to this week's final. Both players have also beaten two seeds this week - Svitolina eliminating Daria Kasatkina (14) and Angelique Kerber (11) while Halep has accounted for 13th seed Sloane Stephens (via walkover), and seventh seed Caroline Garica.
