5 KEY FACTS FOR TUESDAY'S MATCHES

Madison Keys faces WTA World No.33 Gavrilova today. The American has lost to players ranked outside the Top 30 in her last three tournaments - No.53 Misaki Doi (Madrid), No.52 Shelby Rogers (Charleston) and No.72 Lara Arruabarrena (Miami).

Maria Sharapova and Mirjana Lucic-Baroni's first two matches were six years apart; their second and third are just a week apart. Sharapova has won both times so far, at Roland Garros in 2011 and in Madrid last week.

Kristina Mladenovic's defeat of Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Madrid semifinal marked her 27th match win of 2017 – the joint most on tour along with Caroline Wozniacki.

Kuznetsova is making her 14th appearance in Rome. She is a two-time runner-up, losing to Jelena Jankovic in 2007's final and to Dinara Safina two years later.

Johanna Konta earned her first two WTA main draw wins on clay here in Rome last year, when she beat Johanna Larsson and Roberta Vinci en route to the round of 16.
