Anett Kontaveit reached the biggest final of her young career in September, and you rewarded her winning in Wuhan with the crown of Breakthrough of the Month.

Kontaveit scored five notable victories before only being stopped by a soaring Aryna Sabalenka, who was named Player of the Month thanks to your votes.

Having won back-to-back matches just once since Wimbledon, Kontaveit began her week in Wuhan with a stunning upset of Sloane Stephens, coming from a set and a break down to see off the No.9 seed

She then ran off wins against Donna Vekic, Zhang Shuai, Katerina Siniakova and Wang Qiang - herself the July Breakthrough Player of the Month and a stern challenger to this month's crown - to reach the final.

"I'm very proud how I managed to get through these close matches, how strong I stayed in those tough matches, yeah, that I came through some of them," Kontaveit said at the close of the week.

"I thought I played good tennis this week. I think I'll have to work on my consistency, sometimes the shot selection and things like that, but I think it's just a constant improvement."

Her big week in Wuhan puts her on the brink of the world's Top 20, at a career-high ranking of No.21.
