MATCH POINTS

Vera Zvonareva has defeated Alison Riske in both of their previous meetings: 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round of Wimbledon in 2011 and 6-4, 6-0 in the first round of Monterrey in 2015.

Wang Yafan is 0-3 in WTA semifinals to date, having fallen to Monica Niculescu at Guangzhou 2014, Nao Hibino at Nanchang 2017 and Timea Babos at Taipei City 2018. Wang is seeking to become the first local finalist in Shenzhen since 2014, when Li Na defeated Peng Shuai in an all-Chinese final.

Vera Zvonareva will play the second semifinal since her return from maternity leave in 2017, following her run to the last four in Tashkent that year. The Russian former World No.2 is bidding for her first final since Tokyo in 2011, which she lost to Agnieszka Radwanska; a title would be Zvonareva's first since Baku 2011.

Alison Riske is looking to make a third final in Shenzhen, having previously been runner-up in 2016 (to Agnieszka Radwanska) and 2017 (to Katerina Siniakova). Four of the American's previous six WTA finals have come in China, including her sole title to date, Tianjin 2014.

Aryna Sabalenka will face Wang Yafan for the first time in a bid to make her fifth final of the past 10 months. The Belarusian, who won Premier titles in New Haven and Wuhan last year, is yet to win an International trophy.
