NEW YORK, NY, USA - Ranked World No.2 and with 16 titles under her belt, there’s not much Simona Halep can’t do on the tennis court - but she might have met her match in a different sport.
Already in New York preparing for the year’s last Grand Slam, Halep took a break from tennis to enjoy America’s pastime and throw the ceremonial first pitch at the New York Mets vs Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game at Citi Field.
“I’m so nervous!” she told Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki as they walked out to the mound in front of the New York crowd.
But Halep soldiered on, and fired off the first pitch that fell… just a bit short of home plate, but still made it to Plawecki’s glove.
