Carla Suárez Navarro will be away from the competition for a few weeks nursing a right shoulder injury, the Spaniard announced in a Facebook message to her fans.
The injury has been troubling her since the off-season and forced her to withdraw from Brisbane and Sydney earlier in the season, cutting short her Australian Open preparations and seeing her fall in the second round of the major.
"The pain I have been suffering on my right shoulder since the preseason increased during my participation at the Australian Open," she explained in her Facebook note. "This injury prevents me from serving properly and I need some rest to heal it."
She added, "I'm going to follow my doctor's advice and stay out of competition for a few weeks. I'm raring to compete again, and will be combining physical training in Barcelona with some physiotherapy and rehab sessions."
