Anastasija Sevastova pulled off a superb straight-sets win, 6-3, 6-3, against Kiki Bertens to set up a Mutua Madrid Open semifinal clash with Simona Halep.
"I think it's important to have consistency as a tennis player," said Sevastova in her post-match press conference. "On clay court, I feel comfortable from day to day."
The Latvian faced the WTA World No.8 at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart - but was dismissed in under an hour, 6-3, 6-1.
The 27-year-old employed the drop shot to good effect, and held serve to love to take the first set.
Sevastova continued to find space in the second, and dismantled the Bertens serve with aplomb to take a straight-sets victory.
She now faces a tough semifinal opponent - the defending champion Halep, who had an even more dominant display in her quarterfinal, against CoCo Vandeweghe.
