MATCH FACTS

Agnieszka Radwanska and Caroline Wozniacki meet for the 17th time, with the Dane leading 10-6 in head to heads. All but two of their previous meetings have taken place on hard courts. Wozniacki has won five of the last seven meetings, the most recent being their last 16 clash in Doha earlier this year.

Venus Williams faces Elina Svitolina for the second time, the American having beaten the Ukranian fifth seed in straight sets on clay in Rome two years ago.

Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza seeks to avenge defeat from her only previous meeting with Ashleigh Barty, the Australian taking a three-set victory over the Spaniard in Birmigham this year.

Angelique Kerber's only victory over Sloane Stephens came in the pair's first meeting, at Indian Wells in 2012. The American has won both their matches since, in Indian Wells again in 2015 and also at Charleston last year.

Barbora Strycova is enjoying her best showing at the Rogers Cup, having made the last 16 for the first time. The Czech had previously made the second round on three of her four visits.

Simona Halep is yet to drop a set in her three meetings with Barbora Strycova, winning in 2014 in Beijing, at Indian Wells last year and also in Stuttgart earlier this year.

Only Julia Goerges, with 310, can beat Karolina Pliskova's tally of 304 aces served this year.
