AUCKLAND, New Zealand - World No.3 Caroline Wozniacki and defending champion Julia Goerges lead a strong field at the ASB Classic, which will feature a marquee match-up between seven-time major champion Venus Williams and two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in the first round.

It will be the first meeting between the two champions since 2015. Venus leads the head-to-head 4-2, though Azarenka won their last two meetings.

The reigning Australian Open champion, Wozniacki returns to Auckland for the fifth consecutive year, having made the final in 2015 and 2018. The Dane will play a qualifier in the first round and could face either Azarenka or Venus in the quarterfinals.

Goerges, seeded No.2 after another strong season, will begin her title defense against Sweden's Johanna Larsson. Also lurking in her bottom half of the draw are Czech veteran Barbora Strycova, America's teen phenoms Sofia Kenin and Amanda Anisimova, Eugenie Bouchard, and Margarita Gasparyan.

Last year, Goerges defeated Wozniacki 6-4, 7-6(4) in the final.
