ZHENGZHOU, China - Wang Yafan dropped just three games as she beat Sabina Sharipova 6-1, 6-2 to progress to the quarterfinals of the Biyuan Cup Zhengzhou Women's Tennis Open.
The fourth seed will next face her compatriot, the eighth-seeded Zhu Lin, who beat Japan's Miharu Imanishi almost as comfortably, 6-1, 6-3.
Another home star, Lu Jia-Jing, sprang a surprise on fifth seed Duan Ying-Ying, though, triumphing 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
And another Chinese player, Han Xinyun, rounds out the quarterfinal draw after beating Jang Su-Jeong, 6-3, 6-3.
In the doubles, Yanina Wickmayer - who is still in the singles competition - booked a semifinal place with partner Naomi Broady when the third seeds beat Prarthana Thombare and Xun Fangying 6-1, 6-1.
There was a shock elsewhere, though, as top seeds Eri Hozumi and Yang Zhaoxuan were knocked out by Han and partner Vera Zvonareva, 7-6(2), 7-5.
