Eugenie Bouchard Thursday seeks to equal her best showing at the event, having also reached the quarterfinal in 2012, when she was beaten by Sloane Stephens. The Canadian lost in the last 16 the previous year.

Monica Niculescu has twice previously made the last eight in Washington, in 2013 and again in 2015. She lost to Ekaterina Makarova four years ago and Samantha Stosur two years later, retiring in the first set of both matches.

Kristina Mladenovic is also seeking to make the last eight for a third time, having never previously made it further in Washington. The Frenchwoman lost in straight sets in the quarterfinals to Kurumi Nara three summers ago and in three sets to eventual champion Yanina Wickmayer last year.

Sabine Lisicki reached the last 16 last year in her only previous outing at the Citi Open, losing in straight sets to Kristina Mladenovic.
