MATCH FACTS

Simona Halep's two defeats to Sloane Stephens - from their five previous meetings - have both come on hard courts - the American prevailing at both Hobart and at the Australian Open in 2013. The pair have never played a three-set match against one another.

Kristina Mladenovic lost her first meeting with Tatjana Maria, going down in straight sets in Cagnes-sur-Mer in 2010, but has won each of their three matches since.

Eugenie Bouchard has lost five of her last six WTA singles matches - her sole victory coming against Risa Ozaki in the opening round of the French Open, in May.

Simona Halep's last four WTA defeats have all come after the Romanian won the first set. She lost the finals in Rome and France over three sets before similar reversals at both the Eastbourne and Wimbledon quarterfinals.
