PARIS, France - Heather Watson closed in on qualifying for the French Open after staging a dramatic comeback against Tereza Smitkova in Paris.

The 25-year-old won the first set, but fell 4-1 behind in the second before clawing her way back into it – and then got broken as she served for the match.

The British No.2 finally got it done, though, winning 6-4, 7-6(3), moving through to the final qualifying round where she will face fourth seed Richel Hogenkamp.

Elsewhere, Italy’s Sara Errani continued her good run of form to beat Veronika Kudermetova 6-1, 6-2 and set up a meeting with Nicole Gibbs.
