MONICA PUIG

How would you celebrate Father’s Day?
"My dad and I are very close, and he loves to be outside. I think the thing my dad would enjoy the most is to spend the day with me. He loves to fish and since we’re from Miami it would be nice to charter a boat and go deep sea fishing with him for a day. I’ve never done it, but he’s always wanted to take me!"

What’s the perfect tennis gift for your dad?
"My dad loves to play tennis so I think I would get him brand new Asics tennis shoes – because he likes to use all the same gear that I use – or a couple of Ellesse t-shirts since my dad plays tennis at least three times per week.

"Also, he likes to steal my racquets so I would get him one of my Babolat Aero Pro Drive racquets so he can get out there and play and try to be like me."

A special memory with your dad?
"I have so many special memories with my dad. One that stands out is when I was 3-years old my dad would wake me up every Saturday morning at 5 am, and we would sit in front of the TV and watch cartoons.  He would bring me my chocolate milk, and he would have his bowl of cereal and we would sit and watch cartoons together laughing.

"I am a Daddy’s girl, and I always will be a daddy’s girl. I’m really glad that I have such a nice dad in my life, and I look forward to celebrating many more Father’s Days together."

How would you celebrate Father’s Day?
"I actually can’t remember having a Father’s Day with my dad in a very long time. Australia is a long way away from where we play except at the beginning of the year. If we were together, I would make him a really nice breakfast and spend the day with him. My dad loves poached eggs with bacon and bit of toast. Good coffee is a must. He likes tea too."

What’s the perfect tennis gift for your dad?
"Asics Gel Solution sneakers would be my Father’s Day gift.  I want to get him something that he could go out and walk around in and be comfortable which he’s sightseeing.  He and my mom go on a few more holidays now so he needs a good pair of shoes."

A special memory with your dad?
"I have many good memories with my dad.  A more recent one happened this year when my dad traveled with me to the Taiwan Open.  He was the only person there with me, which has never ever happened.

"We had an awesome week. He got a bit more insight into what I do every single day - coming to the courts, practicing and playing matches and everything else.  I’ve never had a week where it was just my dad and me. One day he came to practice and we were getting ready to leave the court and he picked up my bag carried it off for me. I could get use to that!"

How would you celebrate Father’s Day?
"We’ll celebrate by going out to dinner, having a nice meal and hanging out together. Depending on where we are, I’ll plan something fun for us to do. My dad likes wine – both red and white – so I would buy him a nice bottle of wine. And some M&Ms. M&M’s are his favorite."

What’s the perfect tennis gift for your dad?
"I want to buy my dad a really cool Adidas hoodie.  I’ll have to think about the color. Maybe one from their spring sweat collection.  I would want to get him one that is cool and fun.

"Also, I’d get him a pair of Adidas Crazy Train Boost Sneakers in black & grey. They are classic and go with anything."

A special memory with your dad?
"I have many great memories with my dad. In terms of tennis memories, there are a number that stand out. He’s been my coach since I was little girl. One special moment that we shared together was when I became World No.1. He was there by my side and that was amazing."

What’s the perfect tennis gift for your dad?
"I would get him a pair of New Balance 996v3 sneakers.  He already has New Balance sneakers in 10 different colors but you can never have enough shoes."

A special memory of your dad?
"One of my favorite memories of my dad is when I was 4-years old and he bought me a wooden tennis racquet.  It was my first racquet.  I was very tiny with tiny hands so he cut the handle on the racquet so that it was light enough and small enough that I could swing.  That’s one of my favorite memories because from there that’s where everything started.  My journey today is because of that gift from my father."

How would you celebrate Father’s Day?
"I would take my dad to a nice restaurant to celebrate.  His favorite food is steak and French fries which isn’t very healthy, but on this kind of day you can spoil your dad with this kind of food."

What’s the perfect tennis gift for your dad?
"My dad, who has coached me for a long time and travels with me always checks my strings to make sure the tension is how I like it.  I would get him a new tennis string gauge because the old one is not working probably.

"His “real” present though would be NIKE shoes.  It is important for him to have a good shoe on the court."

A special memory with your dad?
"At bedtime when my brother and I were little, my dad would play our favorite fairytale stories on a record player that we use to have. We would sing together. My brother and I would ask him a lot of questions about each fairytale story. I was about 5-years old and my brother was about 4-years old.

"It was something that we looked forward to every night and to this day, it is a special memory that I have of my dad."
