MATCH POINTS

Three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber, a wildcard into the Premier-level event in Zhengzhou this week, gets her tournament underway by renewing a rivalry against American Alison Riske.

After falling in the second round of her title defense at Wimbledon, Kerber will be looking to snap a four-match losing streak against Riske.

Though she takes a 3-1 head-to-head lead into Tuesday's night's encounter, Kerber lost the last meeting between the two, on the grass courts of Mallorca last year.

A pair of French players feature in the day session, as well as three Chinese players. Kristina Mladenovic and Duan Ying-ying will kick off Tuesday's action on Centre Court, having split their two career meetings back in 2017, followed by Fiona Ferro vs. Yang Zhaoxuan in their first meeting.

San Jose champion Zheng Saisai rounds out the day session against Bibiane Schoofs of the Netherlands.

In addition to Kerber, former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko is also in action, as she looks to build on a third-round singles and a quarterfinal doubles showing from the US Open against You Xiaodi.
