Carla Suarez Navarro seeks to reach a fourth quarterfinal of the year, having made that stage in Stuttgart and Strasbourg and the last four in Monterrey.

Victory today would see Julia Goerges reach the last eight in Bucharest for the first time, after being knocked out in the last 16 two years ago.

Top seed Anastasija Sevastova hopes to avenge defeat to Danka Kovinic in their only previous meeting. None of the three other singles match-ups on Wednesday have met before.

The leading seed has made the final in each of the three previous tournaments in Bucharest - Simona Halep winning in 2014 and 2016 while Sara Errani was beaten in 2015.
