Belgium's Maryna Zanevska had never reached a WTA quarterfinal before July 2021, but in consecutive weeks made the Lausanne semifinals and then lifted her maiden trophy at the BNP Paribas Poland Open. World No.165 Zanevska, a two-time junior doubles Grand Slam champion at Roland Garros 2009 and the 2011 US Open, defeated Kristina Kucova in a battle of first-time finalists.
