The new rankings revealed pleasant news for a couple of Germans, most notably Andrea Petkovic rising one spot to a career-high No.10 on the heels of her semifinal showing in Carlsbad. That is quite a feat for a player who was ranked outside the Top 50 at the beginning of last year and outside the Top 30 at the beginning of this year.
Petkovic is not only the first German in the Top 10 since Anke Huber was No.10 in October 2000, but is just the sixth German to make the Top 10 in rankings history. Here is the list, along with each player's career-high:
| Player | Career-High | Date Achieved |
| Bettina Bunge | No.6 | 3/28/83 |
| Steffi Graf | No.1 | 8/17/87 |
| Sylvia Hanika | No.5 | 9/12/83 |
| Anke Huber | No.4 | 10/14/96 |
| Claudia Kohde-Kilsch | No.4 | 9/2/85 |
| Andrea Petkovic | No.10 | 8/8/11 |
Another German also established a new career-high, with Sabine Lisicki going up four spots to No.21, despite being ranked outside the Top 200 as recently as April. If she can climb one more place and Petkovic and current No.20 Julia Goerges remain in the Top 20, it would be the first time since March 1995 that the Top 20 contains at least three Germans.
