NEW YORK, NY, USA - With Garbiñe Muguruza’s loss to Petra Kvitova in the Round of 16 at the US Open, here is a look at the latest scenarios for the WTA World No.1 Ranking. 

By advancing to the Round of 16, Muguruza remains the front-runner for the No.1 ranking, having accumulated 6,030 points. She can be overtaken by just two women, current No.1 Karolina Pliskova and No.4 Elina Svitolina, both of whom are in the same half of the draw and play their Round of 16 matches on Monday.

No.1 Scenarios:

Svitolina needs to reach the semifinals in order to have a chance at No.1.

- Pliskova needs to reach the final in order to have a chance at No.1.

- If Svitolina and Pliskova meet in the SF, the winner will take the No.1 ranking.

- If Svitolina does not reach the semifinals and Pliskova does not reach the final, then Muguruza will move to No.1 in the rankings on Monday, September 11.
