Against all odds, she raised her first WTA singles trophy in June - and as a result, Tatjana Maria earned your votes as the WTA Breakthrough of the Month.

The German hadn't won back-to-back matches all season coming into the week in Mallorca, and arrived with a 3-15 record on the season. However, none of that seemed to matter on the Spanish grass, as she first snapped a four-match losing skid with her first round upset over No.4 seed Anett Kontaveit.

She followed that up with victories over compatriot Carina Witthoeft, No.7 seed Lucie Safarova, American teenager Sofia Kenin and No.2 seed Anastasija Sevastova to claim her first WTA singles title.

"I am very happy to reach my first WTA final. I could almost cry," Maria said after winning her semifinal match. "I think it's the grass, actually. I love to play on the grass. I was really prepared for this grass season to do something good.

After winning the title, she added: "It’s a great event, it’s a really nice place. You really enjoy every day, so I’m really happy I could win it here."

Maria edged fellow first-time title-winner Aleksandra Krunic, who triumphed in 's-Hertogenbosch, and Kenin, who reached her first WTA semifinal and beat top seed Caroline Garcia for her first Top 10 win, to win your votes.
