The clay season got off to a rainy start last week at the Samsung Open Presented by Corner in Lugano and the Claro Open Colsanitas in Bogotá. But one player made her mark on the WTA International stage, shaking up the Porsche Race to Singapore Leaderboard in the process.

The only change in this week’s Top 8 on the Porsche Race to Singapore comes courtesy of Elise Mertens, who lifted the title in Lugano and moves up three spots to land at No.7. Mertens’ rise began earlier in the year in Australia, where she started the season winning her second-straight title in Hobart. Now, with her career third WTA title under her belt she leaps inside the Top 8 and puts her name in contention for a WTA Finals spot.

The move bumps down Garbine Muguruza to No.8, leaving Daria Kasatkina just outside the Elite Eight and Karolina Pliskova on the bubble. But with only 28 points separating Muguruza (1351) and Kasatkina (1323), we can likely expect that No.8 spot to change hands once again in the coming weeks.
