Stephens went 15-2 in the month of August across three events, skyrocketing her ranking to World No.17 following her comeback from injury. She went a staggering 8-0 in three-set matches, and all 15 victories came against players ranked ahead of her.

"It's probably going to take a couple weeks, months, I don't know, [for it to set in]," Stephens said after defeating Madison Keys in the final in New York. "It's so not real. I feel this is a dream. Am I just going to wake up and be, like, 'It didn't happen?'

"I don't know. Look at that [trophy]. That's incredible. I mean -- I don't know. I just think it's very cool. It hasn't sunk in yet, but hopefully in a little while once I, like, am able to lay down and relax and think about it, I'll realize that I really am the US Open champion."
