ACAPULCO, Mexico - Neither of the top seeds, Sloane Stephens or Kristina Mladenovic, are in action today at the Abierto Mexicano so the spotlight falls on Australia's Daria Gavrilova, seeded third after being awarded a wildcard.

The World No.26 opens her campaign against Madison Brengle of the USA. Another highlight is former World No.7 Belinda Bencic's match against Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay.

After returning from wrist surgery, Bencic won her final 15 matches of 2017 – winning one ITF and two WTA 125k Series titles – to return to the Top 100. She also beat Venus Williams in the opening round of the Australian Open.
