MONTREAL, Canada - Timea Babos's World Doubles No.1 ranking is on the line at the Rogers Cup as Latisha Chan has the chance to take top spot.
The Hungarian has led the rankings since July 16 - but if Chan now reaches the final in Montreal she could overtake her.
If Babos and her partner this week Kristina Mladenovic also reach the final, then Chan and partner Ekaterina Makarova would need to win the title.
Chan won the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic doubles title with Kveta Peschke last week, and said then that she welcomed the chance to play with new partners and gain more experience after the retirement of Martina Hingis.
Chan and Makarova next face Eugenie Bouchard and Sloane Stephens in the quarterfinals.
"We get along great. We've known each other, like, half our lives at this point. We're just very comfortable with each other," Bouchard told reporters after their win over Kirsten Flipkens and Daria Gavrilova.
"We won some matches, so focus on another one tomorrow. Try our best, see what happens."
