As the stars of the WTA tour enjoy the off-season ahead of the new year, eight players will not forget 2018 in a hurry. Naomi Osaka was the first of eight players to secure their maiden WTA singles title this year, the Japanese beating Daria Kasatkina at the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells in March ahead of what was to prove a momentous year for the 21-year-old.

Aleksandra Krunic, Tatjana Maria, Wang Qiang, Olga Danilovic, Mihaela Buzarnescu, Aryna Sabalenka and Dayana Yastremska also enjoyed lifting their first singles trophies over the last 11 months, as we pay tribute to the best breakthrough acts of 2018.
