WASHINGTON DC, USA - Two reigning Grand Slam champions are set to kick off their US hardcourt summer swings in Washington DC as Caroline Wozniacki and Sloane Stephens headline the Citi Open player field, the tournament announced today.

Last year’s winner Ekaterina Makarova will be back to defend her title, and she’s joined by two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova and Indian Wells champion Naomi Osaka.

The International-level event starts on July 29 and is staged during the first week of the American hardcourt summer swing, a stretch which culminates at the year’s last Grand Slam, the US Open.

“This field delivers on a long-standing legacy of tennis greats competing in Washington,” said Keely O’Brien, Citi Open tournament director. “With six of our past champions, six Top 10 players, Grand Slam Champions, former World No.1's, and notable rising stars. We are in for a thrilling week."
