Parents came to the U.S. in 1956 and helped operate a lounge in Chicago for 18 years; family has moved to Saddlebrook Resort in Florida; father, Roland is an ex-boxer born in Switzerland and mother, Ilse, is German-born; older sister, Susie, attended Stanford University...Enjoys animals...Studied Zoology at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida, for the 1984-85 school year...Founder of the Little Star Foundation (www.littlestar.org) in Colorado, a non-profit organization which provides opportunities for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases...Injured shoulder in 1984; has since required surgery seven times, most recently in December 1994.

1980 - Exploded onto international scene; starting from prequalifying, she won 13 consecutive matches to claim the title at the Avon Futures of Las Vegas, making her the second youngest player ever to win a pro tournament (14 years, 8 months) and tied the record for the most consecutive matches won in a tournament; became youngest US Open semifinalist at 15 years, 5 months, 1 day; became youngest player ever to be seeded at Wimbledon, a record that held one decade until Capriati broke it in 1990
