Competing in her 126th WTA main draw at the age of 32, No.7 seed Arantxa Rus become the oldest first-time titlist in the past 40 years when she won the 2023 Hamburg European Open. She defeated Noma Noha Akugue, who was playing her first WTA main draw, in the final; that was Rus's 26th victory in her previous 29 matches at all levels, including two WTA 125 titles.
