MATCH POINTS
Angelique Kerber is the defending champion, having beaten Ashleigh Barty in last year's final.
Petra Kvitova is also a former winner in Sydney. She won the title in 2015.
Aryna Sabalenka, who will face Kvitova in the first round, is the youngest player in the draw at 20 years old.
She lost her first meeting with the Czech over three sets in Miami last year but gained revenge with a stunning 7-5, 6-1 win at the US Open.
Sloane Stephens' only previous appearance here came in 2018, when she lost in the first round to Camila Giorgi.
