The WTA's Asia-Pacific presence has gotten stronger and stronger the last few years, and another example of that presence is the inaugural Tianjin Open, one of six WTA-level tournaments in China in 2014.

The event will be held at the Tianjin International Tennis Center, a state-of-the-art venue that has a 3,500-capacity center court, 12 outdoor courts with lights, four indoor courts and a tennis club.

The largest coastal city in Northern China and a major seaport and gateway to the nation's capital, Tianjin is a hub of advanced industry and financial activity. It is also where former Top 15 player Peng Shuai resides.
