'Super-happy' Sloane pays tribute to Venus
NEW YORK, NY, USA - Sloane Stephens is ready for a 'special' US Open final against her friend Madison Keys - but took the time to pay tribute to her beaten semifinal opponent, Venus Williams.
"She's been here, she's represented the game so well, as an African-American woman," said the 24-year-old. "Maddie and I are just here to join her and represent just as well as Venus has."
Stephens added that she was proud of the all-American semifinals at Flushing Meadows, saying: "I think that says a lot about American tennis."
She now faces Keys in Saturday's final.
