Goerges in dreamland as 'unreal' Wimbledon campaign takes her to semifinal with Serena
LONDON, Great Britain - Julia Goerges never thought she'd reach her first Grand Slam semifinal at Wimbledon - and barely has the words to describe her delight.
"It's pretty unreal for me at the moment to get to that stage at a Grand Slam," the German told reporters after her quarterfinal. "It's obviously always been a dream for every player to be in a semis in Wimbledon."
The 13th seed beat her good friend Kiki Bertens in the quarterfinal, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 - and the Dutchwoman had some words of encouragement for her at the net as they hugged afterwards.
"I think she said: 'I'm sorry,'" Bertens told the media. "I'm like: 'You don't have to be sorry. I'm really happy for you. You really deserved this. Keep on going, you can do this.'"
Next up for Goerges, though, is seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams - to whom she lost in the French Open just a few weeks ago.
"Obviously she has won so many titles here, not only here, a lot of Grand Slams beside Wimbledon," she said. "Well, it's a great opportunity for me to meet her at that stage. It's an honor to share the court with her."

Goerges revamped her coaching team and training regime a few years ago, and she feels that brave decision is now paying off.
"I think everything's been worth it for the season I'm playing now, that I'm sitting here right now - on Thursday I'm able to play semifinal against Serena Williams," she added. "I think that's something a player dreams of."
