Halep withdraws from Eastbourne
EASTBOURNE, UK - World No.1 Simona Halep has announced her withdrawal from the Nature Valley International due to a foot injury.
The newly crowned French Open champion said she had been experiencing Achilles tendon pain and inflammation during the French Open and that the doctors had advised her to rest it while she continues her treatment.
Halep's injury is reminiscent of the troubles she reported with her foot after the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, and at that time had to pull out of the Qatar Total Open.
I’m sorry to announce that I’ve had to withdraw from Eastbourne next week. Below is my statement. I hope to see you there next year 😊 pic.twitter.com/U1Vta0pvNP

Halep will hope to be fit for Wimbledon which starts just a week after the conclusion of Eastbourne, on Monday, July 2.
She has failed to reach the semifinals at the All England Club since 2014 and will be hoping to improve on that record when seeking a second Grand Slam of the year in July.
