MATCH POINTS
Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka have each won the BNP Paribas Open twice. Williams leads their head-to-head 17-4, including three-set wins in the 2012 and 2013 US Open finals. This will be Williams' first match since falling to Karolina Pliskova in the 2019 Australian Open quarterfinals.

Azarenka won her second BNP Paribas Open title in 2016, defeating Williams in the final, which is the most recent meeting between the rivals. Azarenka would go on to win the 2016 Miami Open later in the month to become the fourth -- and most recent -- player to complete the "Sunshine Double."

Simona Halep leads her head-to-head record with Barbora Strycova 4-1. The Czech's only win came in their first meeting, a qualifying match at the Paris indoor event in 2010. Strycova did end the eight-match winning streak of Viktorija Golubic in the opening round on Wednesday.
Stefanie Voegele brings a noteworthy 4-1 head-to-head lead into her match with Sloane Stephens. The Swiss qualifier has beaten the 2017 US Open champion in their last three meetings, including a quarterfinal win in Acapulco one year ago.

Garbiñe Muguruza has won her only prior meeting with Lauren Davis, a 6-2, 6-0 victory on the grass of 's-Hertogenbosch in 2013.
Elina Svitolina and Sofia Kenin will face off for the first time. World No.33 Kenin lost to Wang Yafan in the Acapulco final on Saturday, but she avenged that loss in the first round in Indian Wells on Wednesday.
Caroline Garcia and Jennifer Brady have already faced off twice this year, with Brady upsetting the Frenchwoman on both occasions. Before 2019, Garcia had won their two prior encounters, including in the second round of last year's BNP Paribas Open.
