NEWPORT BEACH, CA, USA - A clash of Canadian generations is on the cards in Newport Beach.
Straight-set wins for Bianca Andreescu and Eugenie Bouchard on Thursday booked a Friday quarterfinal meeting between the two at the WTA 125K series event on the road to Indian Wells.
No.6 seed Andreescu lost just three games in defeating Marie Bouzkova, 6-1, 6-2, whileNo.3 seed Bouchard was similarly efficient in dispatching No.16 seed Jil Teichmann in under an hour, 6-2, 6-2, in Thursday's action.
The two Canadians have never before faced off as professionals, with 18-year-old Andreescu and 24-year-old Bouchard separated by six years.
The draws sees another compatriot clash in the last eight, with No.5 seed Taylor Townsend set to face Lauren Davis after straight-set victories over France's Harmony Tan and Mexico's Renata Zarazua, respectively, in the last 16.
The red, white and blue features in all four quarterfinals, as the other two matches seet No.12 seed Nicole Gibbs take on No.2 seed Tatjana Maria, and No.7 seed Jessica Pegula square off against top seed Rebecca Peterson of Sweden.
The event is the final stop in this year's Oracle Challenger Series, which also consists of WTA 125 events in Chicago and Houston last year.
The top two American women’s and men’s points-getters over the course of the Series receive wildcards into their respective singles main draws at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.
