MATCH POINTS

The BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open singles final will feature the first meeting between former Top 10 players Julia Goerges and Jelena Ostapenko.

Defending champion Goerges is into her 17th WTA singles final and seeks her eighth singles title. She is on a nine-match winning streak in Luxembourg.

Goerges is also trying to become the first player this season to successfully defend two 2018 singles championships. She defended her Auckland title in January -- defeating Bianca Andreescu, who was then ranked outside of the Top 100, in the final.

No.2 seed Goerges dropped the first set in her first three matches this week, but pulled through each of them before defeating No.3 seed Elena Rybakina in straight sets in the semifinals.

Ostapenko has won two WTA singles titles in her career -- most famously 2017 Roland Garros, when she claimed a maiden Grand Slam title for her first-ever Tour-level singles title. She also won the title in Seoul later that year.

This is Ostapenko's eighth career singles final at Tour level, and her second finalist showing in the last two weeks. The Latvian made it to the Linz final one week ago, but fell to Coco Gauff at the last hurdle.

Prior to last week, Ostapenko's most recent trip to a final had been a runner-up finish at the 2018 Miami Open, losing to Sloane Stephens.
